Staff Matching
The benefits of getting the right staff for the right person can’t be underestimated. Stepping With Kindness is committed to always doing our best when it comes to getting this fit right. It can even mean that if we don’t have the right person, we won’t establish a service agreement until we can.
For example:
If a person wanted to learn about fishing, I’m not the person to teach them. I love eating fish but I’m not that guy, there would be hooks caught in fingers and we’d come back via the fish and chip shop. Fortunately, we do have that guy, who can teach you how to fish off a jetty, boat, or off the beach. Who know’s what bait to get and how to read the tide times
We believe Staff Matching is critical as it:
Uses a person-centered approach to support that prioritises the individual's preferences and goals
Takes into account both the interests and needs of the individual, and the skills and capabilities of support staff
Considers the individual's interests and hobbies when choosing support staff
Ensures that support staff have the necessary skills and experience to effectively support the individual
Aims to create support relationships that are satisfying and empowering for both the individual and the support staff.
Capacity Building
By focusing on capacity building and skill development, we aim to empower and equip people with the necessary skills and resources to achieve greater independence and reclaim authorship of their own life.
If requested, we will work closely with clinical supports such as Developmental Educators and Occupational Therapists and utilising scaffolding techniques to support learning that enable people to lead fulfilling lives and achieve their goals.
Establishing an evidence base around what a person is able to do and where they may need support is critical part of getting a person’s support right. Support Staff working with us, will know how to capture this information using Person Centred tools in a way that is practical for future planning and is easily accessible clinicians, Support Coordinators and Plan Managers.
Person Centred Approaches as the only approaches
If you are supporting a person, they should be the key driver of that support and what it looks like. Having a seat at the table, being part of decision making and having the service and support modelled around the persons needs make all the difference.
